Painted

Following on from the previous 'Blasted' post was given some black gloss PlastKote paint to paint the bar ends, as you can see from the photo below they've turned out really well.

Blasted

Managed to find myself some really cheap bar ends on eBay, £1.92 is a bargain. But the condition they were in was why I managed to get them for such a low price.

My mate was able to get them shot blasted, the difference after they've been done is amazing.

Chilling

The build has finally started, I've got the old bearing races out of the stockhead and the new tapered bearing rases are in the freezer getting them ready to go in the stockhead.

The workshop (Pt2)

So 14 loft boards, 100 screws and an hour later Declan and I have a fully boarded out workshop. It's not perfectly flat but hey we're not making Rolls-Royces in there. Due to the boarding sat on pallets and then pallets sat on an uneven grassed garden it's the best we could of hoped for.

I now need to get some wood to make a workbench, I've got some boarding left over to use as a worktop, so I'll just need to measure up and get the wood for the boards to sit on.

Finally

Finally managed to get my hands on a reed block and rubber. It was a case of being patient and keeping my eyes pealed on eBay. Just need to look at getting the clips now.

Missed delivery

On my way to work this morning I called at the Royal Mail sorting office to collect my missed delivery.

Opened the package and it's the flywheel I'd ordered on eBay.

The postman

I'm sure by now the postman is wondering what I'm doing receiving packages on a daily basis, today two more packages and a missed delivery card through the door.

Today I've received the rest of the swing arm parts, ordered from Fowlers Parts yesterday at 1pm, I'd had an email at 5pm to say they been despatched and delivery today, I can't complain with that service.

Also arrived bought from eBay is a complete clutch basket.

As for the missed delivery card I'm not sure as to what was being delivered, it could be a carb or a barrel and piston. I'll call at the sorting office in the morning and see what it is, watch this space...

The workshop

Well what a day that was, the workshop (Shed in a box) 8' x 8' put together yourself shed, not one made out of wood, it has a steel frame and sheets over the ends and then the roof and side to seal from the rain.

The instructions says you need two people and an hour and a half to complete, some times we had three people and it took us more like five an a half hours to build. I had one piece of the kit missing and I had to improvise with some cable-ties just hope it stands any high gales we might get in the future.

I followed the instructions to the book and found at the last hurdle the two remaining pieces couldn't be fitted due to the steel frame being to far from the strut braces.

I've got pallets down inside and I'm going to have to get some boarding to put on top so I don't fall through the gaps or if I drop anything in between it'll be a nightmare to find and get it back.

I'm also going to have to knock up a bench so I've got some work space while working in there.

All in all I'm happy so far with the build.

Road trip

The day has finally arrived, I go to collect my RD.

A few things to sort before being able to go, pick Declan (the son) up, and take Daisy (the daughter) to swimming and Poppy (the other daughter) has to come along for the ride. With Declan collected and swimming done, sorted dinner it was then round to my mum and dad's to collect the trailer.

We are on the road, Hinckley here we come, Daisy and Poppy have no idea where we're going and it's not long before we get "Are we there yet?".

Two hours twenty minutes it took to get to Hinckley, a little longer than Waze said but we did get stuck in traffic a couple of times.

We found Jon's (the guy selling the bike) house really easy, thanks Waze. Jon was expecting us and he must of known it was us when we pulled up because he was straight out and greeted us.

Daisy and Poppy dying for the loo that was out first stop and then the bike, there it was in all its glory, all set out so I could see what I was letting myself in for, and that's not a bad thing, I was excited.

Jon confirmed the frame and engine number matched the log book and we started to load the van and trailer. It just fit, if one more thing needed to go in the van Daisy or Poppy would of been coming home the next day sent recorded delivery (that's a joke).

We filled out the V5, swapped for cash and shook Jon's hand, thanked him and we was back on the road homeward bound.

Got home, kids knackered, Declan and I put the bike in the shed, returned the trailer and that was that. Nothing more I could do until Sunday.

I won

I've been looking for an RD125LC for ages and I found a restoration project on eBay. I made contact with the seller and over a week I asked various questions, asking about the condition of the bike, what parts were missing, does the frame and engine number match the V5 etc.

The auction ended at 14:07, at five past I primed my bid and with 20 seconds to go I hit submit. Result, I won with a winning bid of £375.
